I’ve seen it happen many times in traffic. For some reason, everyone begins hitting their brakes and the traffic begins to slow down. A bit later, I realize why–there is a police car nearby. The presence of the law is enough to make everyone careful to obey the speed limit, including me.
And yet, we easily forget that God is present everywhere and at all times, watching our every move. “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, watching the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3). He sees all.
This ought to have two effects upon our lives. First, it ought to help us to live righteously, for God is always watching us. Second, it ought to show us our need for grace, for God sees all of our lives–including our sin.
