While on vacation this summer, we spent a few days at my in-law’s rustic cabin. They purchased the land over 40 years ago and have slowly made improvements on the property. They now have running water, indoor plumbing and electricity. The cabin is very rough and dirty, but sufficient.
While at the cabin, I thought of how we have done nothing to prepare the place. My in-laws have done everything. We have done nothing. We haven’t paid for any of the building materials. We haven’t labored to build the cabin. We haven’t paid for the electricity bill. We haven’t purchased any of the ATV’s. We merely get to enjoy the woods, the ATV’s, and the solitude (we saw maybe four cars each day).
It’s a bit like heaven. We haven’t done anything to prepare the place for us. Jesus has prepared everything for us. He has prepared the way. He has prepared the destination. We get to enjoy it. Jesus said to His followers, “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2).
