This past week, we found out that a distant relative of ours is in the hospital in a drug induced coma, as her body goes through alcohol detoxification. We aren’t involved in her normal life from day to day, so we had little idea that she had a problem with alcoholism. In all of our interactions with her, she was always bright and cheerful. We knew there were problems in her life. But, we didn’t know that she was turning to drinking to escape her problem. In some ways, she was like a clown, … happy on the outside, but hurting on the inside.
Her sin is like the sins of many. They are hidden sins. We think that we can hide them, but we can’t, at least from God. Eventually they will see the light of day. Are you ready for your sins to be exposed?
King David was ready to be exposed. He prayed that God might search him deep within, that God would cleanse him and lead him in the right way. “Search me, O God, and know my heart; … And lead me in the everlasting way” (Psalm 139:23, 24).
